  • What is the difference between foil highlights and balayage or hand painted highlights?

Foil highlights will lighten your hair from roots to ends, creating an overall lighter look to the hair. With foils the stylist has greater control over how light or dark the highlight will be. If you are looking for a classic traditional look, foils are probably the right choice for you. Foil maintenance is generally every 6-8 weeks.

Balayage or hand painted highlights allows the hair to be lifted creating a softer shadowy root and progressively gets lighter as it travels to the ends. Think of a gradient. Balayage is more organic and freestyle. This technique will provide a warmer, golden, and brassier type of lift.  Maintenance for balayage highlights can be anywhere from 2-6 months.

  • What is the difference between a single process and a double process?

A single process refers to a color service that is done in one step. Usually using a permanent color applied to the root area and ends to cover gray or to lift and deposit color.

A double process refers to a color service that is done in two steps. The most common example is a bleach and tone. This is where lightener is used to achieve high levels of lift for clients that desire to be platinum blonde.
